Vampire movies are still proving to be popular at the moment – and film adaptations of vampire books even more so. We are thrilled to have worked on upcoming vamp flick Vampire Academy, based on the 2007 Richelle Mead young adult novel of the same name.
Vampire Academy tells the story of 17 year old Rose Hathaway, who is training to be a Dhampir (half human, half vampire) at St Vladimir’s Academy. Along with her best friend Lissa Dragomir (a Moroi – or peaceful vampire), Rose has escaped from St Vladimir’s, only to be recaptured and brought back. When she returns, however, she discovers just how serious the threat of the Strigoi (the undead and bloodthirsty vampires) is, and must protect Lissa – a possible successor to the throne – and the rest of the Moroi.
With any vampire story comes fangs… and that’s where we came in. Whereas previous films we have worked on have seen one or two actors cast as vampires, Vampire Academy was a little different. Practically the whole cast played a vampire in some form, meaning that high quality, highly believable custom fangs were the order of the day.
We worked with every actor to create bespoke fangs for Vampire Academy, ensuring that each set was the perfect fit and still gave them the ability to speak freely without the impediments that come with cheap joke shop teeth. With plenty of neck biting involved, our thermoplastic was ideal. A fangtastic film to work on!
