Magnificent Maleficent Teeth for Disney
It may be a cliché, but film makers all over the globe know that one of the best ways to give a movie villain a look of true evil is to give them a new set of teeth. Walt Disney Pictures obviously agree – and we were commissioned to work with them on their upcoming dark fantasy release, Maleficent.
Maleficent tells the story of the “Sleeping Beauty” villainess: the film is the untold story of the woman who is the self-declared “Mistress Of Evil”. Previously pure of heart, Maleficent (played by Angelina Jolie) turns to revenge when she is betrayed, leading her to place a curse on the king’s daughter, Aurora. She realises, however, as Aurora grows up, that the child is the key to peace throughout the kingdom – and possibly even to Maleficent’s true happiness.
Any movie villain (or villainess) needs high quality, custom designed, special effect teeth… and that’s where we came in. We were tasked with creating teeth for three of the stars of the film: not only for villainess Angelina Jolie, but also for Peter Capaldi, who plays King Kinloch (who doesn’t appear in “Sleeping Beauty), and Miranda Richardson who plays Queen Ulla – the aunt of Maleficent, who is not a fan of her niece. From first impressions through to final fittings, we worked with the team to make sure that the teeth offered the perfect look and fit, allowing them to transform their looks while still being able to speak as normal.
Released in early July 2014, this big budget film with an impressive cast is sure to be a hit!
