Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s latest endeavour – The Revenant gives an exciting and thrilling take on the true stories and experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass. The screenplay was written by Mark L. Smith and Inarritu, based partly on Michael Punke’s ‘The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge’. The narrative of the film follows a hunting party of trappers and hunters searching for pelts in the uncharted wilderness of the Louisiana Purchase under the command of Captain Andrew Henry, played by Domhnall Gleeson.

Tom Hardy plays the role of John Fitzgerald, a principle antagonist who self-servingly seeks the death of Hugh Glass played by Leonardo DiCaprio. In a tragic turn of events, Glass is brutally and savagely attacked by a wild bear and sustains life threatening injuries. Antagonist John Fitzgerald encourages the hunting party to carry on with the expedition, leaving Glass for dead. The narrative follows this act of betrayal and Tom Hardy’s character of John Fitzgerald is further developed into the film’s villain.

Fangs FX worked closely with Sian Grigg (makeup designer for Leo) in order for him to fully develop the character of Hugh Glass. Creating a set of prosthetic teeth that were perfectly suited for Leonardo DiCaprio and his portrayal of Hugh Glass was vital to the development of the character. Working with Sian Grigg and Leonardo DiCaprio to ensure he was 100% confident and comfortable with his prosthetic teeth, Fangs FX aided CiCaprio with not only the appearance of the character but also the speech. Wearing prosthetic teeth can alter speech, so it is important to work closely with actors in order to ensure their confidence and develop the voice of the character.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘The Revenant’s’ planned release date in UK cinemas is the 15th January 2016. The Fangs FX team hope everyone enjoys the fantastic performance of Leonardo DiCaprio and his prosthetic teeth!
