The British Academy Film and Television (BAFTA) film awards were hosted in proper red carpet fashion on Sunday February 8th. One movie which came out as a big winner at the event, and which is hoping to do well in the upcoming Academy Awards on February 22nd too, was The Grand Budapest Hotel. Wes Anderson’s movie won five awards, including Best Screenplay, and the one that make up and prosthetics aficionados care most about – the hair and make-up BAFTA!
Chris Lyons of Fangs FX worked to create the false teeth worn by star Tilda Swinton who played the fascinating Madame D in The Grand Budapest Hotel. Tilda has been one of Chris’ prestigious clients for a long time now, and Fangs FX made the teeth she used in all four of her 2014 projects. We are understandably thrilled that the work on The Grand Budapest Hotel lead by winning make up artist Frances Hannon, and including the teeth we made for Tilda, was recognised by the board for this year’s BAFTAs!
Of course, every award had a tight list of excellent movies as its nominees, and there was some outstanding work done in the hair and make up category, whose nominees also included the acclaimed biopic of Stephen Hawking The Theory of Everything, the Marvel hit Guardians Of The Galaxy which featured some amazing alien make up work, Into The Woods, and Mr Turner.
This is always a great time of year to be involved with the movie industry, as everybody is thinking back to the most outstanding achievements of the previous 12 months. Fangs FX were delighted to see The Grand Budapest Hotel take home the award, and are looking forward with anticipation to the Oscars!
